ABOUT BEESPOKE AFRICA

The BEESPOKE AFRICA team has years of experience in designing and manufacturing superior quality wood outdoor furniture for clients across South Africa, Africa and the world.

Based in Cape Town, BEESPOKE AFRICA was launched in 2021 for the exact purpose of using these skills and expertise to design, manufacture and craft the best beehives in Africa.

Passionate about creating quality hives, we enable commercial beekeepers to optimise production and reduce costs long-term, allowing them to spend their time doing what they do best - looking after their swarms and growing production.

We are dedicated to skilfully crafting the best quality homes for bees that keep them happy, healthy, productive and safe.

WHAT MAKES OUR BEEHIVES UNIQUE?

Through the design, manufacture and supply of BEESPOKE AFRICA BEEHIVES, we hope to leverage and empower the beekeeping industry in Africa to become the premium honey producing country and region in the world.

We are committed to being an integral part of creating a productive, recognised and respected
agricultural sector to rival international standards. The hives have been enhanced to offer:

  1. Our beehives are skilfully crafted by highly accomplished wood craftsmen. So, you can rely on meticulous attention to detail and exact dimensions to provide critical bee space.

  2. BEESPOKE AFRICA only uses the best quality materials, sustainably sourced and treated in the most ecological way. This includes the use of waterproof glue that has high levels of elasticity, bonding temperature and UV resistance.

  3. The frames are crafted from European Beech and the best species of SA Pine (Radiata) to reduce bowing, increase longevity, and create a more robust structure for the honeycomb. Dimensions of the frame are critical for interchangeability and maintaining of bee space.
These timbers reduce the likelihood of the wire tearing through the side bars of the frame. Each frame is fully-wired with eyelets, and cut using industry-standard measurements.

  4. Our hives are wax dipped - a natural, ecologically-friendly alternative - to coat your bee housing and ensure longevity, durability and protection.

  5. Instead of dove-tail joints, we use rabbet joints to lessen weather exposure and water ingress, and ensure a more durable product.
